I took a three weeks across the Atlantic
go twice that time to get the boat back
to shape and we're still not there yet
living on dry dock for six weeks feels
like living in a tree house and with the
long list of repairs and upgrades for
our battle-worn ship we are hoping to
get back in the water soon it's so maybe
to never get it snow in the waters it
gets difficult where the man

it took us 20 days to cross the Atlantic
from Cape Verde Africa to cabidela
Brazil South America but our battleship
was worn out and in need of massive
repairs and upgrades before we can set
sail again for our journey on the Amazon
River our long list includes repairs
upgrades and unexpected catastrophes but
a few items were simple fixes it was
Mike's turn to make the Cline of the
mast to the crow's nest as we installed
our custom-made lazy bag in addition to
looking sharp this is a safety feature
and will help us bring down the mainsail
quickly in threatening weather it's
basically a little bag that goes
underneath the boom that catches the
sail I comes down so we don't really
need to yeah I'm for sale on the movie
for today okay that's gonna be centuries
the whole yard
we took care of sanding and oiling the
wood in the package
but the rest on the steel underneath
still awaits our attention
in cape verde we scraped the barnacles
from our hole but due to the scrubbing
several old layers of sea Pacha's orange
paint began to peel badly first we had
to take the boat out of the water which
wasn't easy in this marina this project
is still ongoing as you can see we all
have done with taking down paint so very
soon we can start standing the surface
and applying a primer several layers of
primer the paint job is still ongoing we
had to put sea palca back on the crane
and move her to a different spot this
gave us a chance to reposition her to
remove the stress that her weight put on
the structure seems the painting and
antifouling continues my thought about
changing sea falcons bright orange color
but i wouldn't let him it's part of sea
focused character she was meant to be
orange
we had to devise a creative way to get
Captain Jack and Scout out of our new
treehouse
Mike engineered a puppy crane using
their life vests safety straps and the
mizzen boom Mike demonstrated his
engineering skills as well as his
seamanship so often with sailboats one
repair leads to another this one was a
surprise once we got the layers of paint
scraped and sanded we noticed a leak in
the fuel tank that resides in the stern
keel okay not until yesterday we
understood what was really happening
here it's a self-inflicted damage caused
by negligence it could happen to anyone
as stupid as we are so I'm going to go a
little too detail here just be warned
when Z Falcor was put in the heart as
usually we used timber to support the
keel but we didn't pay attention it was
put where the bull Kendal's the internal
frame enforcing the structure of the
boat I marked them for you in red these
drawings the bull cats are designed to
absorb the loads of the boat they are
like reinforced grips this photo was
taken after we moved the timber to the
correct spot the yellow arrow marks the
spot the timber was before as you can
see this is about 30 centimeters one
foot after the bulkhead as a result the
full world seems correct under the boats

two keel bottom plates together the one
on each side of the keel between the
keel bottom plates and the keel sides
and one inside between the wall that
separates the fuel tank and Sternberg
and a Kia bottom plate marked with a

was leaking out of the fuel tank into a
stone bilge and from there out it was it
had to do is once lose the boat and move
the board over here to the frame so that
we reduce the stress on the structure
and secondly we need to weld this
rebuild this we weld this and weld that
internal wall that's down here that has
a correct along the welding seam on the
bottom where it hits the floor this
compartment over here meanwhile after
our Atlantic crossing we knew we needed
to upgrade our solar power the solar
panels have been ordered and we have a
3d drawing of the design which also
includes dinghy davits I found some
necessary supplies for the davits in
Alabama and the structure is being built
off-site we should be able to install it

thanks to a brief stop at fernando de
naranja on our Atlantic crossing we also
need a new anchor and anchor chain it
finally arrived and we began the process
of marking the chain and installing it
on the bail spread and we have what 50
metres a time all right and we're
painting every 10 meters orange and
every 5 meters white about a ver code

so this is not precision painting it's
really just a marker we're trying to
make sure that they bring the chain I

we lost our anchor and locals too high
so what we're gonna do is we're gonna
wean forcing would bend it back already
we're gonna reinforce it and then you
see how the new anchor sits in it and we

adjustment to make it fit for the new
anchor the new anchor is like five
kilograms heavier than the old anchor
and has a little bit different shape so
you know we're gonna fix this
we haven't had much time to explore
Brazil we attended carnival in Orlando
and spent time with a lot of sailors who
came in and out of Marina Jacare Mike
made a quick trip to Germany and I spent
a couple of weeks with family and
friends in Alabama but we sure do hope
to get out there and explore this
amazing country soon
now we are both back to work and
patiently working on completing a long
list of ongoing projects
and while we are stuck here in drydock
for at least a few more waves we
continue to live in our sailboat
treehouse in the next episode we hope to
show you all the completed work as we
make preparations to sail the Amazon on
our way to Devil's Island in French
