The cruising and live aboard community is wonderful. This is one of the weekends we had recently where we got together with the other live aboards and cruise...

he'll here at the sailing vessel
dreamchaser and I think I've shared on
these videos before actually traveled
quite a bit for work you know it's not
always the most glamorous thing in the
world having to travel around for work
but my job is tremendously flexible and
it's what allows me to live on a boat
travel around a little bit and really
affords me the ability to kind of do
what we do without having to quit my job
or frankly be retired so for what it's
worth every once in a while I spend I
spend an evening or sooo actually
editing videos and prepping for for
whatever the next week's YouTube video
is going to be in this particular case
I'm actually recording it in the hotel
as well which I don't often do most of
the times I and record the videos at
home all the clips so I or aboard the
boat and then I take them all with me on
a little Drive and and put the video
together while I may be on the road or
on an airline airplane flight or
something like that every once in a
while if you listen carefully on the
voice-over you might just hear a lot of
background noise not been uncommon that
I've recorded the voiceovers wall on an
airplane and then use the filter to hit
to pull out some of the background noise
no for what it's worth that's what
that's what I end up doing in this
week's video I want to show a little bit
about what is it like living aboard a
boat and in marina it's an amazing
amount of camaraderie that happens in a
in a marina especially amongst the
liveaboards because we all spend so much
time there at the you know at our boats
where we keep dreamchaser we're kind of
at the end of end of a finger pier and I
say this is it's an interesting setup
it's kind of like a drive down island
with parking all on the outside of it
and then boat slips along the outer edge
of that island so most of the boats back
right up to a parking spot we happen to
be about five boats five sort of spots
away from actual Aeneid parking but what
it's nice is right near that area it
affords us a nice little green area
where we have a picnic table and we
actually went together with a couple of
the other liveaboards there and just
went and bought a cheap little gas grill
and put it over there so we can all cook
out from time to time and one of the
guys it's a few boats down for me he put
a little chimenea out there so when it's
cool we'll sit in our chairs outside and
a
little grassy area with a little fire
going and it's really it's really nice
and you know it's not often that you
really bond with the people around you
or your neighbors right I know when we
live in our house you know we knew some
of our neighbors but not all of them we
know all of our boat neighbors really
well whether they happen a little bored
or they just come in on the weekend so
there's three or four of us we know
within about ten boats that all live
aboard and we you know we're pretty
close we hang out do a lot of things
together have meals together a couple
times a week and then there's others
that just come in on the weekends but
you know we're just as close with them
so on a Friday or Saturday we just have
a bigger crowd and it's really as a
blast I started filming out the window
because I could feel just how much the
boat was moving I thought you'd find
this kind of interesting just you know
you look out one window you see things
just go buy back and forth quite a bit
you'll hear a sailing vessel dreamchaser
and today we're doing a crawfish boil
with all of our boat neighbors it's a
good day 70 pounds of crawfish 30 pounds
of shrimp sacks and sacks of potatoes
rum and beer welcome to dream chaser
Harriet all right you got it I got my
little helper here she's gonna help me
clean the crawfish prep them
you're in a calm baby
not yet come here we can't come here
yeah i'm looking forward to turn it on
that's fine i just need to get my
fingers and around this mesh stuff here
oh yeah I wonder why that is Dan Bob
then again
I'm gonna need the other
you got it good girl
he was gonna get sprayed here
some people recommend that you go ahead
and sprinkle salt on the crawfish and
then put water in them and the salt
supposedly helps purge out essentially
their digestive tract to keep that nice
we didn't do that what we ended up doing
was just using fresh water so we'd fill
up each of these buckets put a lid on
the top of it and pour the water out and
we did that until the water ran out
clear as opposed to muddy just trying to
get the mud out of all the flaps on the
other side of the tails we ended up
buying one of these hundred and twenty
court yeah 120 court pots I could
literally sit inside of this thing it's
just monstrous with this to turbo jet
fuel deal at to heat it up but you know
this thing will cook about 35 or 40
pounds of crawfish at a time it's pretty
amazing so we had some fun with that it
was just a good time one of the other
guys brought a pot that's a probably
about a 30 quart pot so we did the
shrimp and that did multiple multiple
pots of it at the end of the day we had
way way way too much food you know we
were inviting anybody who happened to
drive by or you know drove in on a boat
were like hey come on over have some
crawfish have some free and we still had
a ton of leftovers and you know I think
all of us had sore fingers you know
what's up through the next day of
peeling all these crawfish tails and
packing them into bags were for keeping
later
325
I'm sorry
hey when do we need to put the potatoes
in
where the boring
now it was time to set up the spread and
let people come help themselves and help
themselves they did as you can see in
this little fast motion video here one
of these tubs has crawfish in it the
other has shrimp we actually ended up
with two of those bins full of crawfish
so I hope you enjoyed kind of seeing
what it's like with the crawfish boil
you know like I said it's a great
camaraderie and for anybody that has a
boat you know this about your marina
neighbors if you're in a marina if
you're a live-aboard it becomes an even
more solid sort of camaraderie and if
you happen to be a cruiser where you
travel from place to place and somebody
comes in with a new port a call at the
back of their boat you know one of the
boats in in our area says Anchorage
Alaska on the back of it right so it
really is cool to meet people that come
from all over the place and have sailed
their boats long and far to get where
they are and most of the time they're
only staying for a short amount of time
and they're heading to whatever their
next destination is so it's really a
neat camaraderie i hope you will get to
experience that the other thing i wanted
to show you was a little bit of a
product review that we're going to go
ahead and do i posted this up the other
day i put it on our youtube channel but
honestly it was really designed to go up
on on amazon as a video review deb has
found a couple of organizations that are
willing to give us a fairly good
discount that in some cases free for an
honest assessment review of their
products so it's been kind of exciting
to do we've we've several more to put up
there and this is the first one
ironically enough the first one was not
a great and real positive experience so
you know hopefully we'll still get these
product reviews and people do truly want
your honest feedback that's what that's
what you'll see and this is video review
so i'll go ahead and show that now too
you'll notice this kind of a full and
complete video because that's the way
we're putting these together but i'll
just kind of transition into it and let
that play through
don't forget to subscribe to our channel
for weekly updates and like this video
you'll hear with the sailing vessel
dreamchaser yeah Dean popcorn ok let me
my teeth yes it's so cool
I thought I'd do a quick video review
for this particular product this is the
gorilla case the world's first
glow-in-the-dark waterproof case for an
iphone 6 or 6 s so it's about thirty
dollars on amazon and i thought it'd be
handy for when we go out to dinghy or
something like that so we went ahead and
picked it up i guess if you're only
going to use it for rare rare scenarios
when you need to do a short amount of
time in a waterproof case maybe it's a
decent enough option so some of the
things i do like about the case are the
there is actually a touch ID can be read
right through the the case and it still
maintains its water proof i believe up
to six feet yeah 60 waterproof so the
touch ID still works that's kind of nice
you can still use the screen so it's
it's fairly good from a touch
perspective i will say that it's a
little bit darker when you look at it's
definitely not as bright as it would be
otherwise and i typically have one of
those thin film kisses over my phone
anyway and it doesn't have that same
effect this one definitely makes it a
little darker another kind of neat
feature is the back is supposed to be
glow-in-the-dark i don't know i guess if
you lay it down somewhere that could be
handy haven't really noticed a whole lot
of need for that but those are kind of
some of the nice things the other nice
thing is it's pretty easy to get it out
of the case and this is shockproof so it
says it can withstand drops and I
suspect it would certainly help with
that as well now the cons however
there's quite a few and what I what I
didn't care for about this phone is like
I said one of the
screens a little bit darker than I'm at
least used to so you'd have to turn your
brightness up but for sure when you're
looking at the screen in any kind of
light you will notice your reflection
you can see a reflection pretty good at
it the other things a little bit
discouraging is you have no access to
any of the ports on the bottom which I
guess is a waterproof device that would
make sense there's not even a flap that
you can close on it so in order to
charge it you do have to actually take
it out of the case of set you do have
access to the button on the side so I
can click the button on the side to turn
the tire off I can also click the button
on the side to increase the volume or
decrease the volume ironically enough
i'm going to try there is the low volume
high volume and then there's the little
switch that you would think you would be
able to switch up it down for the little
multifunction switch on the side of the
iphone 6 turns out you can it actually
doesn't doesn't allow you to do anything
with them so I'm gonna do is I'm going
to take this off so you can kind of see
how it works so to take it off it's
really pretty easy you just you just pop
this thing off the black cover sits
inside of a small groove with in the
lower cover so it's just yeah it's just
a two-part cover pretty easy to get to
and what I'll do is I'll kind of show
this so you can see the difference here
so you can see the brightness of it here
and the brightness without it I do think
that there's a pretty significant
difference
so the phone just pops right in and out
of the back case so again pretty easy to
use you just pop this thing into the
back case of the device and here's what
I was referring to before so there's a
cutout right here on the side of the
device that gives access to the volume
up and volume down buttons but if you
can see the actual multifunction switch
is behind the edge of this so the cutout
goes to right here see if I can zoom in
on this the cutout goes to right here
and that multifunction switch is right
behind that so really has zero access to
it same with the charging port there is
actually a there's an opening on the
lower case for it but there's not an
opening in the upper case to be able to
put your charger into it one of the
other things it's a pretty big con on
this particular device is you know they
did a good job of putting this little
circular thing in the middle so you can
kind of see the apple logo and then also
there's a small section right here for
the the LED flash and the camera so when
you put your iPhone in the case the
camera lens does line up to that the
downside however is the picture is
horrendous horrendous so that's what it
looks like of me there and just to give
you a compare and contrast I'm going to
take take that back plate off you can
see just how clear it really is so you
can see how clear it would normally be
and then on the case despite the fact
that it's designed to be doing
underwater photos and whatnot you can
see just how unclear that that is it's
really pretty horrible because of that
it makes it
essentially unusable essentially
unusable for that particular function so
all in all if I were to rate this i
would say i would only buy this if you
wanted to keep it like on a boat or in
your car if you ever walk it in
somewhere and you know it's going to
rain and you just want to protect it you
could pop it into here you'll have to
take it off of whatever other case you
have pretty easy again there's just a
groove here so you pop this thing into
the groove and work it all the way
around and then you push this into the
groove itself honestly I was a bit
disappointed in this so I was reluctant
to actually put this underwater with my
phone so instead what I'm gonna do is
I'm going to take my phone out of it
close it up and put some tissues in it
and then I'll just submerge it in a
bucket of water in the sink so I can see
just how waterproof it is before I risk
my hump my iphone 6s I went ahead and
just stuck in a napkin down inside of
the device itself and snap the case on
good and tight and we'll see what
happens here
the good news is i don't see bubbles
that would have me pretty concerned
pushing hard but I'm rubbing along the
front as you might if you were using it
I went ahead and dried off the outside
of this and I want to see what it looks
like now inside I'm just opening it up
so I will say to its credit this is
completely dry so from waterproof
perspective it did seem to work so won't
be my everyday carrying case but it is
something I'll probably keep in the
dinghy and I can pop the other case off
and put this one on if I happen to know
that I'm going to be getting pretty wet
or frankly risk maybe you know weather
gets rough maybe fallen in so you know
at thirty dollars there's certainly a
lot of other dry storage bags or let
cheaper west marine and Academy sports
and whatnot sell some for about ten or
twelve dollars but it's almost like a
little ziplock bag type of thing you can
pop it in that would certainly do the
same thing and honestly give you a
little bit of a picture as far as the
the ability to take a photo under
underwater at least in wet conditions so
there you go there's the review all
right I do need to let everybody know we
did receive this product from the
manufacturer at a discounted rate for
our honest and unbiased review of the
product so you know in in some cases
we've done these before and the reviews
have been phenomenal in this particular
case I think the product it does it does
what it needs to from a waterproof
perspective but I wouldn't necessarily
say it's a great everyday carrying case
because it's rather inconvenient for for
the things I highlighted a bit earlier
but I did want to make sure everybody
does know that we did receive this
product at a significantly discounted
rate for our unbiased and honest review
for this in the spirit of full
disclosure I wanted to make sure
everybody was aware of that
