and it's a beautiful day here in
Tenerife in Santa Cruz Marina and it's
quite busy there's one of these sailing
regattas going on the moment they're
sailing across the Atlantic to think
Barbados its thing called saying Odyssey
and the start is just just happening
I've never seen so many live aboard
boats and crews is all trying to get out
of the same place at the same time this
should be interesting
while I was watching the fleet leave
this fully rigged decided to leave
Harbor it was rumored to be captained by
the ex captain of the Titanic that maybe
it's just a rumor
watch out ladies
I love this city if other something
about it it's just a nice place to be
the mountains through the parks all very
beautiful well-kept smiley happy people
[Music]
I know it's horrible sign up in short
everything that has James a little bit
of rigging for me putting a new flag
handling it myself or summer what you do
that
well done amo it's very dark I'm making
myself the first cup of coffee of the
day the Sun is just coming up and I had
a bit of a night last night just a bit
it's good to see the daylight at last as
the Sun comes up I can actually see
where I am I came in here last night
when it was completely dark and it's not
a proper port it's actually a place for
some big ships come in to supply a local
power station I'm not really supposed to
be here and I'm expecting somebody to
come and tell me off at a minute I hope
I don't get fined for being here this is
like a restricted zone but I had to stop
the boat I was in Santa Cruz in the
north of Tenerife and the met up with my
friend James on his boat moonrise and we
were coming south to south of Tenerife
and on the way down we got caught in
some big wings and they have those
around here between the islands but got
caught out and then horrendous lot like
I've had all this trip coming down to
Portugal I had to James found a place to
stop and I didn't like it so it I hope
he's okay this morning I continued on to
here this is a big break water over
there and I managed to get him behind
that I'm not supposed to be here and I
came as close as ahead edge and the
shore so in the supertankers coming this
they weren't going to run me down and
it's actually ideal but I the swell like
the bow went underwater I'm not kidding
you I was trying to fix the anchor last
night and I'm kneeling like I am now am
I need one under water
the power under the water if we could
order books
meanwhile down below here in the engine
compartment the old Perkins is running
for I don't know how many hours last
night I was giving it some grief and of
course there's a lot of oil down there
which I need to clean up I've been the
Perkins you put the oil in the top and
it comes out the bottom the whole thing
is because in our our cruising along
this amazing coast here fortunately
billed over quite a bit of it that's the
airport over there and I'm expecting my
sister to fly in and about half an hour
see if I can catch that happening and
we're going to go down the coast here
and there's a small marina I'm hoping
I'll be able to find a space in it's not
as touristy some of the other places and
that's what I'm doing next Tina and I at
the top of the mountain looking at stuff

looking for Mount Teide the volcano and
we came up this rather wonderful
mountain road and and this is some of
the earliest walk of the island and
volcano somewhere in the clouds over
there
we knew there somewhere you can see the
island of La Gomera
and it's for all these are huge cutter
he's going stand next to like this in
perspective
yeah okay the team is going to stand
next to on so we can get an idea that is
a big big cat cliff lovely all the
flowers and everything

the views are spectacular here behind me
is Mount Teide which is the highest
point of Tenerife and indeed as Tenerife
is part of Spain it is the highest point
of Spain it is a volcano where it's
something like 2,000 odd meters high the
moment above the cloud line so it's nice
and sunny here and we've had to go
through the clouds to get to this point
we're going to go up there's a cable car
but unfortunatley and I'm too old to
scramble up the size so sister and I is
going to admire the view from down here
and it is one hell of a view
they're saying it's too windy for the
cable car to work today
that's why there's no one around and we
can't get up the mountain the volcano
this whole valley floor is strewn with
lava boulders lava flows and bits of
life just trying to cling to it because
it's pretty waterless up here it's sort
of sparse but rather beautiful
Tina's up there with a car because it's
cold it poses in front of a volcano
[Music]
you
you
this is lossky Ganges diving center it
was in a different location but I worked
here 20 20 odd years ago still get
talking about an onward journey sisters
carry stuff cos I hurt my knee today it
excuse that she wants to get all this
stuff on the road black leg place and
there's the beer there's two in the
Straits thing I don't if you can see
that that is my knee and it's very very
swollen
