and it's delightful come morning hours I
slept last night like a log after having
a few anchor beers I anchored out a
little bit when I came in and it was
pretty dark so I anchored over there and
had a little bit of swell but I didn't
care that was nothing compared to what
I've been used to for the last for those
how long I'm now anchored by a very nice
piece of jungle as birds singing away a
couple of pterodactyls I think they're
out there as a few birds visited the
deck it's lovely
that it's very shallow and I've only got
a few meters of chain out kind of very
close to everything including some of
these guys that's because this is just
temporary I'm waiting I had a bit of
confusion with communications with the
shore the people in the marina wanted me
to come ashore and have a look at the
birthday got me saying something about
it being a tight fit the only problem
was my engine was broken the dinghy was
on the deck the cord broke on the engine
and the gearshift was stuck after
further communication problems in that I
had a hard time telling them that my
dinghy wasn't working and I couldn't get
ashore they eventually came to get me in
a skiff took me in and down this Avenue
of boats at the bottom was a very small
berth so it was kind of good that they
thought that I should come a little bit
before I went in
the lady on the left on the Koran there
looks decidedly worried I did actually
asked if she could hold a fender over
the site just in case I got wrong gonna
let the camera roll here just to give
you an idea just how tight some of these
places can be
that was me whooping with delight it's
that feeling that you've actually pulled
off something a little bit special got
him without banging about feet on the
ground in Panama I was going to check in
here my first checking point in Central
America the boats stopped I'm feeling
happy and then it was time to go and
explore I thought I'd take myself on a
chicken bus into town these X school
buses from America make great buses this
one had Jesus on the side so I figured
I'd be safe it's kind of a hit and miss
thing what you do when you get on board
I fell over at this point
luckily they slay Dee's breasts broke my
fall she wasn't too happy about that but
I got myself settled in and then just
hung on for the ride

and then we were stopped by a lot of
armed guys wearing black who boarded the
bus they took away one woman it was
probably a criminal or something she
looks a bit like that and then I put a
camera down because I didn't want to
intimidate anybody especially this guy
then we continued
[Music]
my main reason for going to portobello
was to check into Panama after I'd done
that I took a walk around the place and
came across this yacht it had been
abandoned sometime before on rough
weather at Berner ashore a sad sight to
see
I've always been interested in green
archaeology here is a Spanish fort it's
built around of seventeen hundreds I do
anybody could have done that it's very
dull yeah I mean it's just like people
just left and walked away there are
cabins lying in the grass there's
another one here look
I mean exact they're complete but you
can't see the makers name which is
usually by the touch hole which is
somewhere up here I think oh my gosh oh
oh I realized I've seen a picture of
this place I wanted to come here
oh look at this
no not the sleeping dog you can see the
thickness of the walls here and I think
there's a kind of like ditch in front
and then you got one of these you see
these a lot of Spanish sports a little
like a pillbox
in 1596 the famous privateer or some
would say pirate Sir Francis Drake died
just off the coast of Portobello and is
reported to be buried in a lead coffin
wearing a full set of armor recently an
expedition reported finding remains of
two of his ships here in the bay
Portobello was one of the main ports of
the Spanish mane there were times when
the custom-house was full of treasure in
1668 pirate Henry Morgan visited the
place and in a bloody fight sacked the
city and held it for ransom a good
defensive position is a place to be less
you I hereby I gotta say I wanted to
bring my boat here I saw pictures of it
but now looking at base
so little things like the step here that
coming into this pillbox sea-ice worn
down you can imagine hundreds of years
of soldiers covered in here to do that
opposite no before walking back I
noticed just across the other side of
the road grass that looks strangely
man-made on closer inspection it turned
out to be a wall that's actually a force
over you can see more here this is a
fort just across the road from the big
four we've just been in and it's huge
but it's completely covered with growth
but it's there I'm not sure we're
talking about the same place that must
be photo shot to hell it doesn't look
like that it does not look right and
meanwhile at the other end of town I
stopped off to look at the Customs House
the building is currently being restored
to some of his former glory in its time
it may well have held the treasure that
was bound for Spain on treasure ships
you can see why Henry Morgan and his
kind were interested in this town for
hundreds of years
although the town is heavily fortified
and this is yet another fort apparently
they were badly managed and most of the
time undermanned seen a few things like
this guy never seen one this low down I
mean you normally think of a fort with
high walls and they're shooting down at
people
then these guns are placed really really
low I mean they right at the sea level
what I could imagine is that you could
shoot these guns at a fairly low
projection down at the waterline of
ships
and sink ships upper silesia I never
heard of it before but I mean this is
really low I mean the whole thing I
guess from the sea you wouldn't actually
know this was here it was too late the
other part of you look that was over
there so yeah you've got past that you
get in here these guys are gonna sort
you out
oh boy
see through their remains of yet another
yacht dead boats everywhere here yachts
that were left never came back
and then after a two-hour wait for a bus
it was back home my outboard engines not
working also I've got a few problems
with that as mentioned earlier the pull
cord broke that's the same time that's
happened and the gearshift decided to
stick on the side of the engine but
rather than watch me fix this a few
people have asked about my music so I'm
gonna end this week's episode where the
clip of me practicing some stuff in my
cockpit enjoy
