so we had to wing it and sail where the wind took us.

welcome back to cactus alien we're gonna
be out sailing today again of course
we're not allowed to stay overnight so
it's we made a sale again now let me
show you what we're gonna be doing so
we're here in Weymouth and the plan
today is to sail along the coastline
here and stop in war Barrow beg or mute
Bay as it's known as well
so law of Covey's just around the corner
where we sometimes go as well now
obviously with the restriction we got on
been allowed to stay overnight so and we
got to sail where we got to sail to we
got to sail back and along this
coastline we can probably get past a
canal one's head pretty easily stood
land
and Swan edge we could probably get
round there but then we've got to just
be careful about the over falls but also
making sure that we tie in a bridge
coming back so it's a bit of a bit of a
rush to get around here and then by time
we get around here we might get the
anchor down and then basically be coming
back so that's not really what we want
to be doing so we look around this coast
and obviously war Barrow Bay is pretty
nice Bay for us to stop in now we've not
been there before actually we'd normally
go to North but they've protected from
the same kind of windage as well so if
you've got anything in the south then
really you can't really stay anywhere on
this coast anyway because you'll be
blown onto a leash or so and we don't
want to be doing that so the plan is to
leave Weymouth and say along here the
wind is meant to be coming from the West
so it should be a downwind sail famous
last words
and then we'll be sailing on back upwind
as well a bit forecast is a bit cloudy
rainy perhaps but we'll see how we get
on
ok so I do believe I just thought I'd
share a bit of a tip when you really a
bit I don't know but it really is a tip
that I something I find
useful anyway so on the boat if you
could just got normal fenders like this
your white fender sometimes they get
sand and grit on the this kind of stuff
and then if they're just hanging down
the side of the boat you got that for it
and it will end up basically sanding
your topsides or your slightly your boat
down and you don't cope so you can get a
Fender Sox now a Fender Sox are
ridiculously expensive normally for one
single sock not even personalized it's
normally around twenty quid or something
like that is normally what I find for
this size fender now this material is a
stretchy stretchy tube especially to
probably call it now is it a stretchy
tube well it comes on a big role in it
yeah big a bit basically it comes on a
big roll and it's already seemed up so
it's basically just a big big long tube
and then all I've done is I've taken a
measurement of a fender and then if I
turn this quickly inside out
so I've taken the measurement of the
fender and then on the corners I've just
sewn the corners up so it creates a bit
of a pocket at the bottom so you get
this little shape by that and then on
the top side all I'm doing is that fold
it down the sides and created a bit of a
pocket here for some draw cord to go
through onto the top now the purpose of
that is just so they fall off the fender
now this in total the rope cost me about
three pounds think it was the two
material per fender it was like a pound
so very cheap when it's not signed up
and you've got quite a few to do and
obviously you can have to get the sock
sock itself in whatever pulley fancy and
if you're really good with a soda
machine I suppose you could probably
start embroidering it or sticking your
boat name on there but to bother with
that so you see what I mean that is
basically all I've done there is I've
just sewn on those edges so it creates a
nice a nice pop into it and then at the
top all I've got is my iron and draw
cords
and basically I mean I've made these
quite long because I had to stretch it
over the top of the bender and then I'll
cut those often and sear them now it's a
nice looking fender I didn't say say
myself they feel you want a drawing to
see how we've done this in more detail
check our patreon page because it'll be
up there with a couple other sketches
we've done such as the the windlass
plate and all this kind of stuff so yeah
check out our patreon and then we up
there

so we're just waiting for the bridge to
open a lot of people go backwards and
forwards and this kind of stuff but what
we tend to do is we just tend to sit
into the wind and just let the boat
drift a little bit if you do start going
backwards then to put a little bit
forward on so what we do now the winds
going from over our starboard side so I
turn into the wind and wait for the boat
to basically hold itself where it is it
does it's about to start blowing off
either way to the wind it's about that
long but you know nyan take over unfold
like this we interesting to them how
long keels do this kind of thing I never
really sailed along keel so I don't
really know they're really know how they
handle to be honest in
we'll decide this wouldn't be no fun you
can just basically sit sit where you are
and drink plenty time
ten o'clock well originally where is it
we're going today we can hopefully get
over to war borrow a wheelbarrow a war
barracks or borough wall Barrow back or
mutilate one of those two not been there
before I know

- sky sails up we've got about 14 knots
coming across my starboard starboard bow
pretty much we're not close hauled
almost on a beam reach but not quite and
we're doing roughly around five and a
half knots across the ground she's
fairly happy with that little bit of a
reef in the headsail just because it's a
bit gusty yeah we sailing over - like I
said we'll sail over to mute bait and
hopefully we should be there in about an
hour - worst case
hopefully the rain whole top

well it's lemon turned a bit it's right
from the South now which means the bays
that we kind of wanted to go into
probably all gonna be a bit untenable to
be honest Frank ruining winds pigs were
a bit as well
a bit of a heel on it through the water
a bit will go a bit further see how yeah
we get on down here but it's a bit the
problem is that the Anchorage is exposed
to the south and the southwest so we
won't be able to stay in there won't be
a banker so guess the point where we
only could go so far clearly Kim Day
Sale and we kind of want to stop
somewhere
so just sailing out somewhere and and
then sailing back to ease a bit silly
really
yeah well carry on say limit further and
see what the winds doing the winds meant
to be shifting further out to the west
which we'd be coming from there but I
don't want to anchor him on a leash or
basically

say Lenovo I don't know we've decided to
go back into the marina because there's
a bit of a score coming over wave it
raineth bay and it was a bit there's a
bit minging it's very wet it was a bit
wet we couldn't turn the boat very well
so I've gone back into shelter okay this
is nice sailing this is this is nice
saving I don't know why but whenever I
talk on camera and it sounded like a
northern man from Yorkshire
sorry 21 from Yorkshire but this is my
first time actually first second time
steering the boat anyway oh just way
that way
we decided to come back because what I
do proper research really first of all
is Anchorage were looking out because
the wind shifted around we couldn't
really anchor there because blowing it
onto the shore throughout the whole of
that south but anyway there's not really
an antenna or bait bait if the wind from
the south and also it started raining
and they started to put it down so
pleasant so we sailed all the way
Wynwood go in there close hauled and we
pretty much they all closed all going
all the way back to the wind shifts
around they're not the best weather but
we to get our sailors those so it's fine
I just I just want to get two sailors a
bit further because then we don't have
to fight with the wind either one way of
coming back it'll be better if we just
horsey
so we're just gonna go on to
just a bit early for the bridge lift so
probably gonna go and tie up somewhere
before we go through the bridge and then
get the boat back on the mooring and
before the next rain car comes in and
then buy some lunch we'll see you next
time
