In the previous episode we sailed from Finland
to the Arctic Circle in Norway
And in this one the winter arrives along with
lots of humpback whales and orcas
Good morning!
So I just woke up and guess what's happened
outside...
That's snow!
The first real snow this season... sure it's
nice
As you can see I had to start brushing up
on my snow removal skills
But luckily the winter came gently at first
and I also had plenty of time to enjoy the
last rays of sunshine
Begins to feel like real winter now, first
actual snowfall right now
Sylvia is waiting here next to the fishing
boats, no other leisure boats around
Lots of fishing boats though
The fishermen have been waiting for better
weather for 4-5 days
Luckily it's not windy anymore and tomorrow
the weather should be good enough to go out to the sea
But during the past few days I haven't been
able to leave this harbor
Just been waiting for the weather to get better
This was also the start of the polar night
The sun would stay completely under the horizon
for the next two months
But on those rare occasions when the weather
was good, the light and the scenery were pretty amazing
The whales just suddenly began appearing on
both sides of the boat
There's not just a few or several of them,
but dozens or maybe even over a hundred here
This was the first time that I had ever seen
whales, so I was getting pretty excited
Huge amounts of herring come into the fjords
in the wintertime
the orcas and the humpback whales follow them
In next episode there's some slight trouble
with ice, and the ski season finally begins
