last time you with us we visited the
stunning Waldman Falls then got stuck
into boat projects completely renovating
our water tanks it was Darren's birthday
and he wanted to go out exploring so we
decided to check out the quarantine
station which was built back in 1915 as
a result of population increase in
northern Australia due to the discovery
of gold in 1851 approximately 15,000
diggers arrived into the area this along
with increased trade by sea resulted in
the need for quarantine to halt the
spread of disease it's the biggest Food
Steamer you've ever seen it probably
been about six people in there maybe
it's a sweetie sauna co-located at the
Cape pallor International Park the
quarantine station is now Heritage
listed with the remaining buildings open
to public
it was interesting looking at the
medical relics used back in the day some
of the equipment looked quite
rudimentary and makes us thankful of
more modern day appliances
so this is pretty interesting this is
the quarantine area so when you came up
one of the ships back in the 1900 you
had to basically come through this
quarantine area before you could be
allowed onto land and it's got a bunch
of outbuildings where you got to stay
but first of all you had to come in here
through and the other side of the room
you had to have a shower or a bath stop
all your clothes and all your belongings
got put into this and what that says as
a giant steam get it and so all your
belongings get put inside and this
massive there's two massive doors that
get clamped shut here and then they
build up the heat with all the gauges
get everything boiling and get it
steaming and really hot and hopefully
boil out will steam out any diseases
that you might have brought with you
from your ship from whichever country
you came from so yeah pretty cool and I
was reading that a few um heads if you
came and you were sick or you had a
fever or whatever you had 45 days you
had to stay in this camp so this was a
little quarantine hunt where they used
to put you and used to have to sit here
until you got the get-out-of-jail-free
card
in the hills surrounding the station you
will find several strategically placed
gun emplacements and searchlight towers
that hit both Australian and American
personnel in World War 2 here you can
see the dug out pits and concrete
bunkers which helped various machine
guns and heavy armament soldiers would
run ammunitions to and from the
emplacements with runners keeping fit
delivering important messages along the
tracks
imagine yourself flying overhead this
would have been the view from an
attacking plane
[Music]
we hid inside one of the bunkers to see
what conditions might have been like
back in the day
[Music]
we're section of the time chocolate
his ranch
and bear to break away by rock
and other places that I can't read yes

[Music]
okay shush we're storming the place we
stowing the place
well there is a little hive of
industriousness going on in the marina
this afternoon and when you walk down
the jetties there's lots of flavors and
smells coming out from people's boats
because tonight is the monthly cook-off
challenge which is awesome and tonight
is create your favorite curry so the
best curry wins and I have been making a
super special beetroot and kumrah curry
beetroot and kuma muscle man if you must
know come and have a look
I reckon I'm on a winner look at this
delicious flavors beautiful coriander
and cumin
it looks so sweet and luscious doesn't
it
[Music]
is my gift to the group tonight sir came
up well we didn't that Oh beauty beauty
beauty well I know it's really fun about
this fun situated directly on the
foreshore in Townsville breakwater
marina has a focus on making all
visitors feel like family the facilities
are top-notch and they host monthly
gatherings which make you feel like
you're at home
this was a pretty cool night with
Curry's coming from staff long-term
tenants and visiting yachties well I
didn't win the curry competition well
technically there wasn't an actual
competition in the end because one of
the employees is actually a chef and he
keeps winning with his goat curry so
unbeknownst to me in all my excitement
that actually called the actual Kerry
competition off but I reckon I had a win
because my bowl of curry was empty first
[Music]
[Laughter]
anyway we're gonna go up they've got a
beautiful community garden here and
we're gonna go up and plant these spring
onions and let them grow for someone
else
next time the community garden is well
stocked with herbs and tomatoes even a
passion fruit vine and guests are
encouraged to plant and share their
crops okay we thought which shows
somebody asked about how we get in and
out of the marina and I just thought I'd
show you that because therians brought
in the right hand turn when she goes and
reversed she pivots to port which a lot
of vessels do do just sterian just keeps
going around a stick ha ha ha
she doesn't still roll in Reverse anyway
we've got a little trick we're currently
in a blonde bird which means the wind is
pushing us on to the bird and although
there's not very much when today we just
thought we'd show you how we put it
hurry up
so Darrin's just sitting up the line
here you see Darin adjusting the lines
then feeding the bitter end up to me on
the deck so that I can clean it off with
that bitter end tied off and the loop
fed down and around the dock cleat and
back up to the anchor winch we're ready
to go
as Darin reverses the boat will start
pivoting around and I will adjust the
line a few times to ensure the bow stays
clear of the dock then simply release
the line and pull it free of the cleat
at the dock after three months in the
marina we were feeling much more
energized and it felt great to be back
on the water again with the breeze on
our faces we lapped it up on our cell to
horseshoe bay
[Music]
magnetic island makes a top Anchorage
with it's stunning headlands
semi-tropical bushland
and many bays providing a variety of
all-weather Anchorage's today we're
heading over to beautiful Radical Bay
it wasn't day today we are very excited
we're going off for a coconut hunting
afternoon with Troy and Pascal who are
fellow youtubers and absolutely

looking forward to meeting them and they
just come down from Cairns and we're
going in opposite directions but we're
having a day of plays so yay let's go
