the appearing one of those days
[Music]
this week we're enjoying more fine
sailing through the whitsundays when a
series of unfortunate events occur
okay that's pretty good
it's not porn big enough and wishes
I'm telling the joke
well I lost my cheerful face
we had a mini disaster occur just
previously when the my phone flew from
its bag in the top of it at the top of
the mast into the water the ocean blue
well we were trying to get decent enough
reception and internet to try and upload
this week's video anyway my clever
husband flew into the water like a
leaping lizard and miraculously after a
couple of dives managed to retrieve the
phone I put it in a bag and a bag and a
bag
and luckily the bag stopped it from
floating directly to the bottom like a
brick however it's now in pieces trying
to survive after having an open-heart
surgery and we should update you on
progress I guess you'll find out if this
video ever arrives
that's looks like two cameras gonna find
that the emissions and that just a white
now well I still like it
not to worry anyway we've got some wing
so good so it
rather my love tell our good friends
what's been going on this morning yeah
not such a good morning this morning
we've just done some engine chicks and
we're a little friendly dipstick here
and you can see it doesn't really look
like oil anymore you can see it's way
over full you know there's the it's the
full mark down there and that's where
the level is currently and because of
the nice gray colors it's telling us
there's quite a few litres of water in
there yeah so not a happy camper this
morning
we've got oh I've got a bit of terrible
will not say good weather coming in and
we need to be probably somewhere else
and you know got this little issue to
deal with so anyway we'll just have to
go through the processes and find it
where it's coming in
so that's a bit of a bummer we were
gonna move off to a safer Anchorage this
morning because there's a bit of bad
weather coming in and it's going to get
fairly uncomfortable here anyway we'll
have to hop to it we they have luckily
got about 20 litres of oil on board we
always carry as much as we can so we're
going to drain all the oil out and flush
it a few times and that'll be phase one
and at least we'll be able to get away
to a safer Anchorage and then yeah then
we'll have to do some thorough
investigation anyway we just skip
hustling yeah it may not be Major Tom
stuff anyway I've just dropped the
exhaust off the back of the elbow this
is where the where all the exhaust gas
is mixed with the water and you can see
the water surging up the pod and it's
obviously surging up high enough that
it's dropping it over the elbow and into
a an open valve or whichever valves open
it'll um it'll squeeze water down past
into the into the oil at the moment
we're just going through the long
laborious process of taking the oil out
of the engine you can see that the
watery oil on the end of this lever
I'm just gonna drop the oil filter off
I'm drying that out the best we can and
then we'll stick it back on its clever
little things just a oil filter strap
fits any size you virtually just put it
over the top of your filter and you want
it up like that
you can stick a shifter on there or a
spanner or even a half inch socket so
it's quite for this at all and that just
grips the filter and you keep warning
warning up the more pressure you apply
the more grip it's got yeah really good
little thing sad all right Nigel
cancerous to this engine so as you can
see that's not very good
it looks like a moldy old coffee down
there
and it should be nice clean oil so we
are gonna just I don't know if you heard
that or not but we're just going to put
it be that filter out then put it back
on because we're going to put some new
oil in the engine and then that'll allow
us to steam off to a safer Anchorage and
get out of this weather which is getting
nastier by the hour that's okay and then
yeah that process will get repeated
three or four times of draining the
engine of oil and refilling it up with
fresh oil so then Darren we'll have a
look at the non-return valve and see
what the issue is and whether we can fix
it or need a replacement but yeah first
priority is to get some nice clean oil
in there and get off to our next safer
Anchorage so with fresh oil in the
engine we could now move off to a safer
Anchorage
[Music]
it was all pretty good we started up the
old breath you don't cuz she went the
first time which is good we're now on
our way to a more peaceful Anchorage
which was better moving a lovely style
actually it's probably about 20 knots
behind us so they're pulling about seven
are they just glad lovely radio ma honey
what is that now this is their little
culprit that's giving us the problem
let's say a normally turn valve to the
exhaust this little boy
yeah there's come adrift I've actually
got a little bit of brass rod in the the
workshop of amazing the treasure chest
after cutting a replacement rod Darren
fits the flat back in place solving our
flooding issue that's how it works you
can see that little little flat B okay
so we are on day two of the save Syrians
engines s and yeah so it could end up
being a big problem for us if we had let
this go any longer
luckily Darren's pretty on to it and
pretty much every time we start the
engine from having being sitting for a
few days he checks the oil so this
problem has it with the water and the
oil hasn't been going on for very long
and so we've we're pretty hopeful that
we can clear it up with quite a few oil
changes and some fixes because yeah let
go a long time or if the boat sets for a
long time it can actually mean the death
of your engine so one to pay attention
off but we'll just see what Darren's
been up to and he'll show you what he's
been finding
radio hey mister what's been going on oh
yeah I'm at it again yeah anyway I've
got the what this it's pretty much what
I expected this is the rocket cover it's
probably a bit hard to pick up on camera
but that's sort of milky oil oily water
and you can see all the all the beads of
water in here yeah so if let go this
will spell death for your engine
definitely death so we're lucky enough
we've caught up pretty early I'm pretty
confident that we're onto a good thing
after cleaning up the salty residue we
refill the oil which now appears quite
clean
so Darren's just putting some degrees
are in there
he's worked at all clean and just trying
to get the last of any residue salts out
as you can say it's a bit of a stormy
day
luckily we got to our protected
anchorage before a way that kicked in
but as Murphy would have it that wasn't
the end of our troubles we appear to be
having one of those days that's the sea
strainer which just seems to be pouring
the sea water Oh Lord Lord
anyway it's broken it's got a crack in
it it's less than a year old mmm
meanwhile things were going from bad to
worse outside
[Music]
cyclone Owen had formed above us so with
the weather deteriorating and the engine
now going we could find me seek the
shelter of trammel bay it seemed unreal
though we were back in the same place
that we had hidden from dreadful cyclone
Debby a few years ago ok so we are just
going into
a little sneaky spot for the cycloid
we've got about 1.2 under the keel right
now so we're just trying to stay on
apart
where we don't touch the bottom you
could feed on my time we're a little bit
late we better time to come in is about
an hour before high tide so that if you
do hit bottom you've got a little bit of
water to lift you up but we are a little
bit late see how we go anyway I'm just
getting the lines really what I do is I
do four points of either side of the
stern and then up at the barre and I
just drape the lines over there Tyrael
over the lifeline so that I can easily
pass them down to Darren
coming through the entrance keep to the
middle of the bay until you round a
white marker to starboard looking back
you can line up the top end of Long
Island with Syd Island on your chart to
see the required bearing over the
shallow entrance yes so as you come in
here you stay on the right side of
little patch of mangroves ahead
you should then stay centered as you
traveled the Creek had time to dress for
the manga we had found a good spot so I
lowered the tinder so that Darren could
tie us off to the surrounding mangroves
[Music]
once he's fine is secured I tighten up
on them to position serían to the center
of the creek you know I might be around
on the wheel trying to keep serene in
position and the creeks going to try and
a little bit but it's gonna take quite a
while a futile a few little marks around
but I'm just kidding the revolution side
Darrin can get in there nicely tied off
stall the subs come in which instead of
a pendulum up anyone needs a date
