it's outrageous in here
pins actually caught paint that's
Christmas morning
[Music]
[Applause]
the regional hub will close the width of
their pilot each area from 600 our local
time on Sunday December 2018 all ships
are therefore strongly advised to
immediately return to base or seek
shelter and be secured by the closure
time of 0 600 hours this week on seryan
you find us holed up in Trammell Bay for
an incoming cyclone we'd pack down the
Hitsville got the washing on and started
stripping down the main as we plan to
run some repairs on the stack pack
whilst we were hiding from it stormy
weather being a full-time cruising boats
are Ian gets worked pretty hard so
events like these present a good
opportunity to make repairs yeah
we're just ripping all the gear off
[Music]
a little bit of wire that's coming true
something worked at all right because
we've got a few repairs to do what
anyway so yeah it's a bit of a bit of a
process sort of taking for that half a
day to get this far anyway weren't only
done I want to start trying and I can
get the owl sound machine out and start
fixing her all up win-win well you can
see behind me that we are tucked up in
the mangroves and we came in had a
pretty chill night last night and we are
just stripping down the boat it actually
looks the forecasters slightly changed
so we've got an extra day up our sleeve
so we actually do like to come in early
because it gives us a time to do
everything properly rather than be a
real hasty last-minute movement but yeah
this cyclone as with most cyclones being
fairly unpredictable we might get to go
out without having a big cyclone watch
over us we shall see and what it ends up
doing but well it's a beautiful day time
to get the washing done
and yeah get everything tied down nicely
I go for a wander up the creek see see
how we go but I'm gonna go and have some
lunch gorgeous isn't it meanwhile Darren
wasn't expecting our boom
okay so we've discovered while we're
having a few problems with our reefing
it's actually catching on the line that
pulls the foot of the sail out the base
of the Sailor of the main song just show
you what's going on the article line had
gotten tangled making roofing a
difficult task so with a quick
switcheroonie of the lines and a bit of
persuasion they could now flow freely
when we needed to read yeah we got that
at all fixed so when you pull it out
hold tight that just pulls on this plate
here that just bolts up to there the
other little problem that we got with
this it's taken a bit of a fizzling and
air you see that pins actually caught
bent so we might have a look at see
whether we can put something a little
bit heavier there eliminate that problem
it's obviously been fixed runs before
[Music]
so Darren fit it back into place to get
on with the next job here so as you can
see it's quite easy to have a look in
your boom if you've got something going
on with your racing lines or with your
art hall now you just need to unscrew
those stainless screws from the end cap
and then risk the boom down and you can
get in there with a torch and see what's
going on you can see that we're
surrounded by a thick expanse of
mangroves which is why they provide such
superb protection during a cyclone
well it's bewitching air and the midges
are starting to come out so time to pack
things away and go and hide
[Music]
[Music]
oh my honey
I was still in the head little repairs
on the outside back now just replaced
all these little these little whoops
I just integrated uh yeah shy dawning
into the sale bag nice things get a bit
busted up within the Sun after time so
we're just sticking some new ones are
those in and the new velcro are in the
front ear for the front part of the
cover and a couple of other little tears
[Music]
yeah we'll stick it back on that yeah
it's all gone really well great project
for a rainy day it is a good little
rainy day project or was right and so if
you can write to get along just fall
good radio it's time to leave this
beautiful Anchorage I mean the mangroves
are beautiful in their own magical
little way but the McGee's make it
unbearable and there has been no wind
for days so yeah cyclone Owen has abated
and turned into a low so we're going to
take our leave and pretty quickly and
the chap in front of us is very been
very good and it's going to drop his
lines because he's going to stay on
another couple of days for some reason
and he's gonna drop his line so we can
get past so yeah McDowell's just started
the engine and I'm gonna go and keep us
hovering while while Darren lits the
lines off
it's outrageous in here if you're gonna
buy a property I would say suggest that
mangroves are not the ideal destination
for your new home anyway time to go time
to go yay we quickly through the lines
off and made a run for it before the
Michi's drove us both bonkers
[Music]
here
yeah hopefully
we're about an hour before low tide for
about an hour and a quarter before high
tide so that's how we like to play it
normally so hopefully with the rising
tide and we do have it too
I'm stuck on something we'll get lifted
off
anyway I'm just following a track out
Hypatia be all good
and we'll be back in some breeze
freshen up the boat
I admit she's out
yeah
I tell you what though this is a really
secure place you wouldn't know if any
wounded near it alone mangroves are very
good for that it was a quick and busy
stay in the mangroves as luckily cyclone
Owen was to pass to the east of us as
much as we don't enjoy the midges
mangroves are an important part of our
ecosystem as they filter water uptake
carbon and nurture fisheries as well as
providing a stunning and vibrant refuge
for salty sailors I'm gonna flip it on
oh it's a bit bird anyway we'll put that
on top look at that it's Christmas
morning well it's about lunchtime
actually and we are hiding away in a bay
because it's been really blowing the
last three or four days we tried to get
down to the twine Pascal for Christmas
but no way we could make it to move
you're pounding into really heavy
weather and so yeah we're just cruising
out chilling out my honey's been on the
barbecue he's been barbecuing a pumpkin
roast pumpkin for lunch
look it pretty good isn't it babe the
old pumpkins looking great I can't wait
to get into it yep
we had been hiding out in CID Harbor
while the remnants of Owen blew over
we'd experienced 35 knots in the bay so
it was good to be sheltered away whilst
prepping for festivities yeah baby how
we're gonna give it over there man look
at that that is just so good that is
pumpkin stuck with pin wah and pumpkin
and rice
and cranberry sauce and grilled capsicum
and spinach it just looks delicious
dessert yeah I'm glad there are 20
people on board well we're gonna have
fun for the next few days we don't have
enough food here for 20 people I caught
up what I am
the news they think because a little bit
for the voice talent and
seems to be there's a groundswell for
the environment and for the world and I
really love that
and I really hope that
that groundswell equipment
I will benefits from uh speaking
I hope that all people get to enjoy
always they get to understand how
