well good morning welcome back to SD
basic you know it's finally happened
we've been waiting for this for a long
time we've been fighting whether it's
been ugly kind of rain drizzle over the
past month here now we finally have ten
days of good weather that means we are
gonna get busy getting the rest of this
paint down we've got a lot of topside
paint but down and the bottom paint put
down give it paintin as much as we can
over the next week try to get this
project buttoned up so we could splash
we'll see how much we get done it's
exciting though we better get busy
so this bootstraps been drying now for
four days
I feel good about it
it's no good this
it's cured enough that when I peel the
tape it's not gonna pull the bootstrap
off
but I guess we'll see
[Music]
what is it about fresh paint than is so
gratifying and so exciting it's pretty
early this morning we got started about
7:00 7:15 now about 8:30 teal is almost
done with this side with the first coat
but it is looking so good
laying down pretty good actually yeah it
is and this is just the first coat - one
more coat tomorrow will peel the tape
and then we can catch this rub rail
project that would be
all these projects are just finally
coming together
I know painting a turbo with a four inch
roller but you know what there is not
one roller mark here I just like the
control coming up and around like cool
things
I'm just used to it I guess kind of
thinking we should go up to the six inch
I mean I cut but it's looking perfect
and I like using the four so perfect we
don't like that word right perfect
wheeze it opens up a whole can of worms
okay keep going
you're almost there
[Music]
[Music]
okay got the coat on first coat both
sides lay down pretty good boy I like
working in the shade a lot better I
think I'll get an earlier jump on it
tomorrow finally got rid of the cream
all the cream is missing from the boat
now well except for underneath I guess
Oh
Oh what do we got nice I don't like this
they're good for me
I think I'm taking a break okay I'm done
anyway
we'll let that uh setup for the day sand
and other coat tomorrow thanks for lunch
and good morning got up early this
morning sand it out this whole side with
220 wiped it down with three three three
and got the second coat on I knew that
the Sun hit it Sun rises on this side
now I'm over here
it's nice working over here in the shade
I've now scuffing this entire side with
220 by hand just lightly going over it
it's a good chance to double check your
work make sure there's no debris that is
in it buds
and if you did get a drip it's your last
chance to stand out a lot of debris in a
boatyard it's tough to get a Bristol
finish I mean it's impossible plus we're
tenting this thing off this is good as
it's gonna get
but you know what doesn't look at that
so we'll get the sanded out wipe down
and second coat on this side all right
so that's another day another painting
project we started about three hours
prior to this and trying to get all the
paint down before the heat intensifies
and we had direct Sun on the holes so
teal is I know
here we are praying for sunshine and now
it's like too much Sun but I'll take it
well it's not too much Sun you just want
to make sure that yeah so we got to get
up early before it but here's the thing
that you guys don't know about tea I
mean I'm sure you guys know this about
tea he has been painting for the past
couple days
and do you see this I think I found one
and a half or just one and one small
drip at all this is a pretty clean
painter I got to say you don't want to
waste it after this we're gonna jump on
to other projects because we're not
gonna just hang out and it wastes
theater yeah well you paint dry just
waste the entire day because you can't
touch this after after painting for at
least 24 hours so we're gonna jump
inside and do one through hole I guess
start building this rubber oh that's
gonna be pretty cool I was terrified
they'll be peeling off my new boots
drive
[Music]
I shouldn't speak too soon what's the
last foot peels off the tape and the
boots right no I'm actually really happy
with it yeah it's coming off clean
[Music]
you're happy we're all happy I think
your your worst critic I love it it
looks good
[Music]
okay rather than just sit here and watch
this paint dry I'm gonna get a couple
other projects done
I need that wire in my navigation light
my Stern light so I could get the
scaffolding out here so I need the
scaffolding to paint the front of the
boat that's one project today here's the
other one here's my new engine exhaust
those are gonna be located right about
here but I'm gonna wait to paint before
I drill through that way don't have to
tape them off but this one has to go in
down this is our seawater lead it's
gonna go to a seawater strainer and feed
both heads and the water maker that
fitting actually goes real close to
these two ones that just shaped out this
was an inch and a half to haul it was
too large and this was a 3/8
through-hole it was too small and this
one was located in the wrong spot it was
way too close to the cabin sole for me
to turn off and on the seacock properly
so I want to raise it up and actually
move it over it and about this position
right about here when I glassed these in
I actually extended the glass on the
interior
a little bit further so I have
additional backing for this new
through-hole fitting so I need to start
preparing the surface drill this out and
fill the core that's what I'll do today
so I could get that fitting in tomorrow
[Music]
okay I just went in - this is the only
unfinished room on the boat this will be
our sail Locker when it's complete I had
put a patch in here and drill a pilot
hole to mark where the new through-hole
fittings gonna go now I just lined up
[Music]
and plunge it out whoops I just spent
the last I don't know 20 minutes half
hour drilling the hole dishing out the
core I could get that polypropylene NIDA
core honeycomb out of there and I dished
it out about three-eighths finish around
and then I filled it with West system
epoxy I used the 105 epoxy with the 205
partner and the 406 colloidal silica
filler just packed it in there cleaning
up my mess let this cure overnight I'll
be able to sand this and then grind this
back so I could apply that through all
fitting tomorrow and glue it in oh
really
while we're waiting for the paint to dry
Till's gotta hurry up and get the
navigational lights set up so then we
can move this scaffolding forward and
get painting on that next phase next
phase teal just got to get this in I
mean I need this scaffolding to reach
out here well the reason why we had to
redo the NAP lights is because we moved
the stern light which originally was
over there on the corner
but because the solar panel kind of
hinders that we moved it over here which
works out anyways right then it's right
and center well you like that
symmetrical I do the only trick now I
was thinking about this changing this
bulb you're putting an LED bulb in here
but if it ever goes out you know who's
changing it me you have to lay on the
panel and reach over the top okay I can
do it okay
or you can we'll see Duke well Emma will
we just grab the bosun's chair and just
string it hey that's a great idea
yeah it's lapping left yeah she'll love
that you're right we can do that
[Music]
that quick pretty simple okay so I hate
to ask what but are we keeping all these
wires exposed no actually
once I still have to wire in the solar
yeah I'm gonna make nice looms here and
put protection over everything so we'll
be good okay UV does major damage got it
covered
don't worry you want to go hit the board
let's test this okay okay I don't have
my LED in here yet I just put the stock
bulb and we're picking those up later
today let's check it out though go ahead
hit it on yep perfect it works
[Music]
okay I've got the scaffolding set up in
the front here and I've spent all
morning so far prep in this area here
next
I'm doing this one over here and there's
quite a bit to do here take a look at
this
so what I'm doing is just going through
and just finding any little chip or Nick
or cut and standing it out and I will
spend the whole day doing this so I want
to get paint down tomorrow I'm not gonna
bore you with step-by-step of sanding
for 12 hours so I'll just get at it one
more thing I do need to do though this
has kicked off now so I need to sand
this out grind this out and get this
through-hole fitting in it's important
to get that in now because the sealant
takes about four or five days to cure I
want to make sure it's plenty cured
before I get the bottom paint down
because I want to paint right over that
through-hole fitting keep any growth
from happening on the fitting itself so
I got a busy day
we'll check in a little while so this
behind me as you can see is probably
batch I'd say 15 or 20 of us going
through and finding all the little
divots and cracks or anything that are
imperfections so then we can fill it and
sand it down so then we can paint it is
so hard because it seems like every time
we swipe through you think that you got
everything but I'm teals extra set of
eyes so I go back and I can look for it
and then he goes back and he looks for
it
we could go on and on and on and do this
but we're not looking for perfection
we're just looking for the really
glaring defects of our boat keels up
here right now at the bow and just doing
the final touches yeah whatever whatever
we get today is it I mean tomorrow is
paint on these inside of these holes so
this is the last chance the other thing
I forgot to mention is I feel really bad
but Emma and I have planned a girls
weekend with my sister's months and
months ago and we are leaving tomorrow
so teal and compass are on their own and
is there just batching it it sucks
because I don't get to be here for this
final paint years we'll be fine we'll be
fine
I'll get a lot done
you
I'm exhausted but look at that all the
blue tape is off the interior size of
the holes are all prepped and ready for
paint so I'll be hitting that tomorrow
getting late fast and I still haven't
attacked this through-hole I pocketed it
yesterday
I need to prep it and get this installed
tonight because I don't want to be
creating dust on the new paint tomorrow
so I'll just muscle through and get it
done
[Music]
this is a below the water fitting so I
wanted to make sure I was down to the
raw glass for the sealant to bite on I
don't want to trust just adhering it to
old paint I put a nice bead of sealant
on here this is what I'm using notice
I'm not showing you the label when you
talk underwater sealants on YouTube
it's like talking religion or politics
so I'll just keep that to myself are you
in there okay we're gonna put this in
[Music]
I'm all ready for paint tomorrow
everything's prepped we get up early and
start hitting this through holes in just
put it on finger tight just so that
sealant isn't squeezed out of there
we'll let that cure four or five days
and we'll be ready to do the bottom
paint but tomorrow we hit this hard
first thing
[Music]
I'm tired good night
[Music]
so I've been practicing the drone flight
simulator for a while now and this
morning I was really excited to fly it
around but I can't because we're it's a
restricted flying zone and we're really
close to the Indian Indian Island Naval
magazine so we have to fly it somewhere
else so where do you want to go um maybe
Port Gamble that'd be a good part that's
cute
let's go there
[Music]
you
yeah we can't do it here either
man let's go try somewhere else
look power down well good morning it's a
new day a nice sunny day the girls left
yesterday for five days I'm gonna try to
have I'm gonna try to get everything
done we'll see how I do I had a big day
today I did about eight hours of
painting already today I got up boy it
was uh 5:30 in the morning I was taping
wipe the boat down and was painting by
6:30 did pretty good I think it's our
first coat I'll just keep at it until
this boats white get another coat on
tomorrow and then started on the bridge
deck bridge Dick's gonna be a little bit
of work but boy I am just happy with how
it's turning out take a look at this
this is our first coat here kind of
gives us an idea for what we're gonna
look like and I'm liking it
liking it a lot okay is a big big day
working off the scaffolding sure helped
last time we did a scratch coat on here
we actually painted in the water by
dinghy that was a lot of fun actually
but not the best way to get a good
result
we knew we were coming here to be hauled
out to do the final coat and I'm glad we
did I know it's tough to make a video
about paint and make it not boring but
to me this is exciting
we are just that much closer getting
paint down is a huge step for us I mean
look at these sugar scoops these repairs
have death
it just like look like they were never
there so we've made some big steps made
big strides and I'll just keep going I'm
gonna paint every day until the girls
get back and hopefully I get it all done
hope you guys enjoyed this video I'm
gonna take a break get some editing done
