This week's episode of Onboard Lifestyle, we make it back to our custom catamaran SV basik and are so happy to be home! The girls get into the Christmas Spir...

well we made it back to Westport last
night
got settled in
and we're being pummeled by the next
round of storms here blowing 30 out here
it's 35 degrees just freezing girls are
inside it's nice and toasty inside
they're getting a going for the day
cleaning organizing and getting ready
for Christmas decorations I believe
[Music]
meanwhile I'm out here just trying to
figure out what project can I get done
with these weather conditions we're
definitely not traveling on a day like
this looking at the weather we got four
or five days in a row of this before we
even look at a window for leaving here
so it's just a matter of camping out for
a little bit get some projects done get
back in the groove and try to stay warm
because it is frigid out here
[Music]
welcome back to the Pacific Northwest in
the letter
Southern California we're missing you
already
we're trying to get there okay let's get
to work
[Music]
[Music]
okay even though it's freezing out here
it's not raining so I got to take
advantage of it keep putting down deck
hardware now that I have this winch in
here this is gonna handle the mainsail
so I'm gonna put some rope clutches in
some other deck hardware every chance I
get get this one in now cuz the wind has
died down a little bit not much still
feels like it's below freezing with the
wind chill out here but oh it's not
raining yeah that road trip we did was
pretty fun actually
[Music]
about 3,000 miles we took from Westport
we went highway 101 all the way down and
did I five a little bit on the way back
but then jump back to highway 101 on the
way back
it's a beautiful scenic trip it's good
to be back on the boat though we gotta
get these projects done
we're just itch and to jump to the next
port next part from here is ill wok oh
it's about a 50-mile trip but this time
of year we up to time quite a bit of
things we have to watch tides because
going in and out of these river systems
going out on the wrong tide can create a
bad bar situation so we have to time the
bars we have to time keep the swell down
we don't want a heavy swell we don't
want ten fluid plus swells so we want to
go on a day where the swells you know
five six maybe eight feet we also have
to time the wind patterns wind has been
out of the south-southeast and we don't
want to go into it for fifty miles
because we won't make it in daylight
hours that's the only thing we need the
time is daylight hours getting in Dale
Wako is a long skinny channel and it's
best to do it during the day so I'd like
to hit that during daylight hours so a
lot of things we need to time and look
for there right weather window it's not
gonna happen this week that's why we're
starting some more projects hopefully we
could
find in a window next we will see in the
meantime we'll just keep plugging along
plenty of projects to do and this is one
of them it's awful cold out here I think
I'm gonna get this one done today and
maybe move inside you know the project
down on the inside I'm glad this is a
quick project so I'm getting cold fast
got the butyl tape on here
this should just slide right into place
I've got Lynn inside she's gonna put the
backer plate on and the washers there
goes
[Music]
[Music]
okay now I'll be able to cinch this up
and that's one more project a small one
but boy gotta get inside and warm up can
you reach it stand on your tippy-toes
[Music]
okay that was a quick project thankfully
that's freezing out here so this will
handle now our main halyard and the
topping lift I'm gonna head inside and
join the girls they're in there putting
up holiday decorations it sounds a lot
more fun than this clean up my mess get
inside and warm up it was so nice to go
and visit family I have a very large
family and we're scattered all over and
state but we try to get together once or
twice a year all of us which is really
hard because we all have families and
work and you know life obligations so we
really make an effort for that it was
really nice to go down this year to
Southern California why because it's
much warmer than here and - it's just so
nice to see all my sisters and brothers
and cousins of my parents so although
that is all fun and games I'm so glad to
be back that was the longest road trip
we've ever done anyways so here we are
back here and I it's really hope you
guys is so cold and windy outside
so instead of doing a Thanksgiving
dinner right now I decided to make a
fish chowder because it's just nice to
have something warm and hearty after
being outside but I did that earlier
today and simmering and now I get to
concentrate a hundred percent on
Christmas decorations because it was up
to Emma and I we would have this up
probably by October maybe November at
the latest but teal has a rule that we
cannot put Christmas decorations until
after
November or after Thanksgiving which is
like such a bummer so here we are now
and I'm gonna go gangbusters and putting
everything up it's so fun and it also
happens to be my birthday month so I
would like to just have Christmas
decorations out year round but okay so
you guys know that this is my favorite
time of year I love the holidays and it
also happens to be my birthday month so
I'm feeling really happy and really
excited so we have decided to do a
contest so stick around until the end of
the episode and we'll give you the
details so while we are putting up
decorations I want to show you how I
prepare tonight's meal so I have a big
smile on my face because we just had a
subscriber come by
who happens to run a local fishing
charter and he brought us some beautiful
ling cod which if you guys remember back
when we were near bay teal issued me a
challenge for seven dishes in seven days
using the halibut well tonight we're
going to use one of those recipes that
they really like and since it's so cold
and gloomy not really gloomy outside but
it's really blustery outside I've
decided to do the fish chowder again
using the link hot so the bass could not
be any easier start to finish on this
chowder or soup is about 30 minutes and
I always start with my vegetables and
it's not anything fancy it is your
potatoes carrots onions celery and
garlic you can use this on just about
anything because it is a chowder I'm
gonna make it a little bit bigger
because you want something hearty and
something that will stick to your ribs
so we're gonna get started on that
before I get going on the meats you know
it's kind of funny because
if I could I would be cooking all day
long because it's just fun it's you know
I get to be creative and I love watching
teal and Emma and our friends enjoy my
food some say I'm a little food obsessed
because while we're eating usually I'm
planning the next meal you guys noticed
something my eyes are not tearing up
when I'm cutting onions I'm you guys
noticed that my eyes don't tear up
I cut a lot of onions and I never have a
problem with it I think onions all day
long and it doesn't bother me and I
realized this because I have a contacts
so there's a trick you go to contacts so
everything is propped down so it's time
to get started I'm going to go ahead and
put the bacon in
and we'll render that out and then at
the root vegetable bin okay we're gonna
put the onions in first let that sweat
out a little bit this is gonna be a
chowder so it's time to thicken this up
make our roux
so I'm gonna add a little bit of time
and a little bit of obey and just let
this simmer for a little bit so we've
been simmering for about 15 minutes and
now it is time to add the cream and then
the fish let that cook for another I'd
say 10 minutes
[Music]
and that is how I make my chatter at
this point you can add fresh corn or
frozen corn and salt pepper to taste it
really is up to you I usually serve this
with my fresh bread but since we don't
have any we're gonna do croutons tonight
and I hope that you guys enjoy the
recipe I know that the crew is gonna
love it
[Music]
[Music]
okay I have to admit it does look faster
you like it you like Christmas we're
gonna break you it's not that I don't
like Christmas I just don't like
Christmas in October it's not it okay
wonderful meal we're back in the groove
back on the boat I gotta say I'm liking
it
best again well it's still a little cold
outside so I decided to jump on the
inside it's nice and toasty in the cabin
so I'm gonna do a couple projects on the
interior today we're working on our
freshwater system the freshwater system
on SP basic it is pretty simple actually
we have two 35 gallon freshwater tanks
one buried midship in each amah down as
low as we can the tank on the starboard
side handles both heads and both galleys
both the interior and exterior galley
the port tank is gonna be designated
strictly for our water maker I want to
be able to dump water into that tank as
we produce it and control that and
separate it from our other tank there'll
be a transfer pump that transfers it
over to this tank so we can distribute
it throughout the boat pretty simple
system over the past month we've noticed
that our fresh water pump that handles
the starboard tank it's been acting up
kind of making a little bit of noise
getting a little louder we have a spare
pump on board so that was the first
project at it this morning I replaced it
this pumps 15 years old and I'll be able
to rebuild this I'll tear this down
break it apart and figure out what's
making that racket in there for the
meantime I threw our spare pump in here
shurflo makes it nice and easy
doesn't take hardly any tools at all
they have just hand fittings works out
pretty slick actually all I had to do is
redo the electrical connection and the
new pump is nice and quiet purrs like a
kitten I'm really liking this new pump
while I was in here I decided I was
going to also add another option to our
fresh water system so what I want to do
is add the tank sensor for the starboard
tank and connect it up through the Wemo
board when we installed this tank
initially we buried that tank below the
master head and I put the sensor in the
tank already and put a deck plate over
it so we'd have easy access so today
it's just a matter of making that
connection tying it back to the Wemo
board so we could see that tank level I
think it's gonna help us out quite a bit
we stopped running this tank dry so
let's take a look at the water closet
okay here it is
looks pretty complicated but it's
actually pretty simple here is water
coming in from dock pressure goes
through a filtration and in and I can
control the dock pressure from here this
is our tank pressure that comes from our
tanks through the pump and into the
system here this riser here goes to an
accumulator tank and that helps keep the
pump from cycling on and off so much
from here I could just select whether we
want dock pressure or tank pressure
these feed together and now they split
apart to the hot water and cold water
systems this goes to our hot water and
that is an engine driven and electric
system but we will be adding a solar
assist to that in the future that'll be
a fun one the cold system pretty
straightforward
both these tie in to a manifold that's
in the next Locker down I'll show you
that in a minute
but this system is pretty bulletproof
the one thing you need to be careful of
is when you're bouncing from dock to
dock there's different pressures we do
have a regulator that regulates water
pressure but if you eat ever had a
plumbing leak while we're tied to dock
pressure we could be flooding the boat
pretty quickly so to safeguard that we
make it a rule every time we leave the
boat nobody's on board we turn the dock
pressure off we turn it off in three
positions here on the input on the
bulkhead and at the dock itself and that
way there's going to be never a chance
for an issue here's our manifold this
handles every single fixture on board
I'm able to individually cut off the hot
and cold for each fixture so if we ever
had an issue with the galley sink
outside I can turn off either the hot or
cold
and the rest of system stays live these
are straight leads go into each fixture
they're not teed off anywhere so it
keeps this system running pretty smooth
actually okay actually to hook up this
we McGrew p-- tank level indicator was
pretty simple I'd put the sending units
in the tanks years ago when we were
doing the installation so it's just a
matter of hooking up the signal wire we
ran it from the nav station down through
chases that we had already pre
designated and fished it down under the
stairs and over to the tank itself okay
this is actually pretty simple here's
our women group panel if I open this up
I've designated this sub panel for all
the leads coming in from the different
tanks and as a hookup each sensor I'll
just keep feeding it back so the new one
I just hooked up was right here this was
lead number five and lead number three
those tie in back to the board here so
let's fire this up and see if it worked
and there we go it's on I did put a
designated power lead back to the main
board so I could turn this off and on I
didn't want this to be running all the
time and that was just uh pretty simple
to do just pulled a lead off that sub
panel and ran it over to the main board
and now I'll be able to select which
tanks I need right now one isn't hooked
up yet I just hooked up number three and
here we go the water levels coming up we
have about a third of a tank in there
fuel was I hooked up five the other day
in Port Angeles it should be full I just
capped him off and there we go there's
our fuel so now I'll be able to just
select which tank I want on board and
I'll just keep adding knees as I need
them thank you so much for sticking with
us till the very end of this video now
it's time for the fun part the contest
as a thank you to all of you guys that
have watched us and followed our journey
we wanted to give back and show our
appreciation to you guys for helping
grow our channel now for the contest you
guys have been following how much teal
has been renovating and building our
boat now it's time to guess how many
gallons of epoxy resin do you think he
has gone through while rebuilding and
refitting this boat to date today
leave your guests in the comments
section down below how it's gonna work
Price is Right rules closest one to the
actual number of gallons without going
over is the winner and what do they win
we have these beautiful Yeti mugs with
our logo on it we're gonna be sending
out one to the winner whoever guesses on
the channel on the channel but we're
gonna be sending out a sweeter gift for
the patrons what are we gonna be giving
them we're gonna get them two mugs and
maybe a couple other things thrown in
there so for our patrons leave your
guests on our patreon page
and then we'll do a separate drawing for
that but we'll announce both winners
next week and patrons you have a much
better chance the odds are with you I
don't even know but we did keep every
receipt so we're going to start that
tabulating and figuring it out and
figure out how many gallons you know I'm
curious too I have been not wanting to
add up that number but well guess we'll
see you next week what that number is
so make your best guess we are looking
forward to seeing what you guys think
good luck on my contest everyone cuz
these are pretty cool anyways guys if
you like the video don't forget to leave
a like and subscribe please check out
our merch store we don't sell these mugs
but we sell other stuff with our logo on
it and we're having a 10% discount for
this month come back next week to see
who into the contest see you then
